Using Text Messaging

Test Messaging is the ability to use your cellular phone to send and receive text messages of up to 160 characters.

Text via email
Here's how to receive a Text Message on your cellular phone from any email address:

Text messages to your cellular phone should be sent to your ten-digit cellular phone number, followed by @mobile.cingular.net. So for example if your cellular number is 555-123-1234, the email address would be 5551231234@mobile.cingular.net.

Phone-to-phone text messaging
To exchange text messages with another cellular phone that is capable of text messaging, simply use the ten-digit cellular phone number as the messaging address.

Using Caller ID

If you have a Caller ID compatible phone, simply look at the display when your phone rings to view the phone number of the person calling you.

Caller ID alerts you to incoming calls:
As your phone rings, you'll see one of the following messages on your phone's display:
The area code and phone number of the incoming call, or
RES or PRIVATE (if the caller has chosen to block or restrict the display of the number), or
UNA or NO ID (if the incoming call originates from an area where Caller ID service is not available).

When you don't answer:
The phone numbers of incoming calls are stored in your phone's memory, and are numbered in reverse of the order received, with 01 being the most recent.

Your phone's screen will display a missed call message and the Caller ID number will be stored in the phone's memory.

Follow the instructions in your phone owner's manual to return unanswered calls from your phone's memory.

For continuous Caller ID Blocking, contact us for details and to add the feature.

To activate Caller ID Blocking on a per-call basis, press * 6 7 + 10-digit phone number + SEND.

If you have continuous Caller ID Blocking, to transmit your number on a per-call basis, press * 8 2 + 10-digit phone number + SEND.

Using Call Waiting

If a call comes in while you're using your cellular phone, you'll hear a tone to let you know you have another call. When that happens, you can:

Put the first call on hold by pressing SEND. You'll automatically be connected with the second call.

To return to the first call: Press SEND again.

To switch between the two calls: Press SEND.

If you ignore the Call Waiting tone, after 30 seconds, the waiting caller will hear a message indicating that you're not available, or will be forwarded to your voice mailbox if you subscribe to Voice Mail.

Billing Note: You will be billed for both calls while they are in progress if you answer the second.

  • To disconnect the first caller, ask them to hang up.
  • To disconnect the second caller, press SEND, or ask them to hang up.
  • To disconnect both callers, press END.
